スティーブン・ソダーバーグの新作で、脚本は彼と何度か組んでるレム・ドブス。
マロリーはアメリカ政府に雇われた私企業の特殊エージェントで、バルセロナに監禁されている中国の要人を救出するというミッションに成功したのち、新たな指令を受けてダブリンに向かうものの、そこで仲間のエージェントの裏切りに遭う。自分がワナにはめられたことを知ったマロリーは単身ダブリンを抜け出し、アメリカに戻って彼女の元上司に復讐を誓うのだった…というようなストーリー。プロット自体は比較的シンプルなんだけど、登場人物が多いことやフラッシュバック形式で話が語られることから、ちょっと物語を追うのがしんどいところがあるかも。
主人公のマロリーを演じるのは現役の総合格闘家であるジーナ・カラーノで、これまでの演技経験は殆ど無し。ソダーバーグがたまたまテレビで彼女の試合を見て惚れ込んだらしいが、そんな彼女を主役に起用し、さらにマイケル・ダグラスにユアン・マクレガーにマイケル・ファスベンダーにチャニング・テイタムにアントニオ・バンデラスなどといった、やたら豪華な男優たちを脇役に揃えてしまうところがソダーバーグの凄いところか。そしてこのうちの何人かは当然ながらカラーノに劇中でボコボコにされてます。
女性格闘家が主役のアクションというと「ビデオボーイ」の裏表紙とかで宣伝されてたようなB級・C級のビデオムービーが連想されるのですが。この作品はソダーバーグが撮っているだけあって格闘シーンなども非常にスタイリッシュなものになっている。そしてやはり現役の格闘家であるカラーノのアクションが非常にさまになっていて、回し蹴りとかジャンプしてグーでパンチする姿などがいちいち決まっており、当たったらマジで痛そうだなあ。相手をしとめるのに遠くから狙撃などせず、後ろから走ってきてブン殴るというのは仕事の効率的にどうよ、という気がしなくもないけど。彼女はルックスも演技も悪くはないので、今後もいろんな映画で見かけることになるんじゃないかな。
アクション・サスペンスとはいえ派手なドンパチが繰り広げられるような内容ではないので、アメリカでは批評家たちには褒められた一方で観客の評判は芳しくなかったらしいけど、個人的には結構楽しめた作品でした。
