オーストラリアの同名映画（日本でも公開？）を元にしたTNTの新シリーズ。
ヤク中の母親がオーバードースで死亡したため、17歳のジョシュアは仕方なしに疎遠になっていた祖母（「スマーフ」の愛称で呼ばれている）のところに連絡し、彼女と3人の叔父たちのところに移り住むようになる。しかし彼らは強盗などを行って生計を立てている一家であった。さらに出所したばかりのもう一人の叔父ポープにジョシュアは目をつけられ、犯罪の手助けをするように強要されるのだった…というあらすじ。
元の映画は見てないのですが、ウィキペディアのあらすじを読む限りではかなり映画に近い内容になってるのかな？舞台は当然ながらオーストラリアからカリフォルニアに移っているが、昼間からビール飲んでサーフィンやったりして遊んで、その一方で結構えげつない犯罪に手を染めたりしてる一家の姿がリアルに描かれてます。
荒くれ者の叔父たちを統括してるのが一家の母親であるスマーフで、演じるのはエレン・バーキン。祖母なんて演じられるような年齢だったっけと思ったら実際にそんな年齢でした。もともと下町育ちのタフな女性という感じだったから、優しいようで情け容赦ない母親の役がよく似合ってます。あとの出演者はあまり知られてない人ばかりかな。
しかし設定がテレビシリーズに向いていないような気がするのだが、そこはどうするんだろうね？映画は2時間ほどで結末を持ってくることができるが、テレビではジョシュアが一家のなかでしんどい目に遭う展開が何話も続くとは思えないし…まあプロデューサー（および第１話の監督）はベテランのジョン・ウェルズなので、そこらへんはきちんと考えてるんでしょう。少なくとも第１話は手堅い作りの作品であった。
