Syfyの新作シリーズ。原案は「セルフレス 覚醒した記憶」のパストール兄弟で、製作には「グッド・ワイフ」のテッド・ハンフリーのほか、なぜかマット・デイモンとベン・アフレックが関わっている。
舞台は2074年。大規模な気候変動の影響により地球の資源は枯渇し、天然の食料は希少な存在となっていた。政府は破産し、代わりに巨大企業がのし上がって世界を管轄し、企業に勤めるエリートたちはグリーン・ゾーンというエリアに住み、それ以外の貧民たちはレッド・ゾーンという隔離された無法地帯に暮らしていた。大企業の１つスピガに勤めるベン・ラーソンは美人の妻を持ち幸せに暮らしているように見えたが、実は彼はレッド・ゾーンの出身者であり、行方不明になった知人を探すためにスピガへと潜入していたのだった。厳重に守られたスパイガのデータへのアクセス権を得るため、上司を陥れてでもベンは企業で出世をしようとするが…というあらすじ。
レッド・ゾーンの住民がグリーン・ゾーンに入ることが禁止されてるなら、グリーン・ゾーンでの道路工事やトイレ掃除などは誰がやってんだろ、と思うのですが、そういうツッコミは野暮かと。過度にテクノロジーが発達したディストピアという設定は「Black Mirror」に通じるところがあるものの、こちらは話を続ける必要があるのであそこまで風刺色は強くない。ライバル企業との競り合いとか海外でのテロ活動とか、面白そうな要素はあるのでもうちょっと過激な内容にしても良かったかなとは思うけどね。
主役のベンを演じるショーン・ティールはこれまたイギリス出身の俳優だが、ベネズエラ系ということでオスカー・アイザックによく顔が似ているかな。あとは「テラ・ノヴァ」のアリソン・ミラーのほか、「24」のデニス・ヘイスバートがスピガの不気味な社長を演じてますが、ヘイスバートの第１話でのシーンは少ないのでどのくらい重要な役なのかはよく分かりません。
設定が現代の移民問題とかグローバリゼーションを反映しすぎていて、かえって凡庸に感じられるきらいはあるものの、モンスターとかアクションにあまり頼らない、（比較的）知的なSyfyのドラマは久しぶりなので期待したいところ。今後の展開次第では結構面白くなるかもしれない作品。
