ジョス・ウィードンが「アベンジャーズ」の製作中に休みをとって、しれっと短期間で撮影した低予算映画。シェイクスピアの「から騒ぎ」の舞台を現代に移し替えたもので、レオナートの屋敷にドン・ペドロの一行がやってきたことで生じる男女２組の恋愛模様と、それを邪魔しようとするドン・ジョンたちの悪巧みが巻き起こす騒動を描いている。
マイナーな登場人物の性別が変更されている点などを除けば、シェイクスピアの原作に非常に忠実らしいのだが…私事で恐縮ですが俺って大学で英文学専攻だったにも関わらずシェイクスピアって殆ど読んだことがありませんでして（授業で無理矢理学ばせられるのが嫌だったのだよ）、この作品もどのくらい脚色されてるのかはよく分からず。
おまけにセリフはすべて当時のままで言い回しが難解だし、登場人物の名前も古めかしくて、誰が誰なのかが分からないまま前半が過ぎていったような。ここらへんは原作に精通している人が観るとずいぶん違った感想になるかと。それでも後半になって話が佳境を迎えてからはどんどん面白くなっていったし、独身主義を貫いていたツンデレの男女が結ばれる結末は非常に微笑ましいものであったよ。モノクロ映画だけど日本でもきちんと宣伝すれば格好のデートムービーになるんじゃないでしょうか。
出演者はクラーク・グレッグやネイザン・フィリオンをはじめ、以前にウィードンと仕事したことのある役者たちが勢揃い。ウィードンは監督・脚本だけでなく作曲も担当し、撮影してるのもウィードンの自宅なので、とてもアットホームな雰囲気に満ちた内容になっている。奥さんが設計した家らしいが、デカくていい家に住んでるよなあ。
舞台を現代にしたことで「彼女は死んだことにしよう！」とか「決闘だ！」といった話の展開はさすがに無理があるものの、そこは目をつむりましょう。コケティッシュな魅力のある良い作品ですよ。
