ついに放送されたのだよ「ドクター・フー」50周年特番。

久しぶりの再会を果したドクターとクララだったが、直後に英国政府のヘリコプターによってターディスごとトラファルガー広場に運ばれてしまう。そこではブリガディアの娘が彼らを待っており、イギリスおよび世界を揺るがしかねない危険がせまったときのみに開封されるというエリザベス１世（２世じゃないよ）のメッセージをドクターに伝える。その調査にあたったドクターは時空の歪みに出会い、それを通じて10代目ドクターに遭遇する。さらに「タイム・ウォー」を虐殺により終わらせようとしていた、８代目と９代目のあいだの「ウォー・ドクター」も彼らのもとに現れ、３人はともにイギリスの危機を救おうとするが、そもそも彼ら３人を引き合わせた存在は何なのか…というプロット。

ここから先はかなりネタバレになるので白文字にします：

ウォー・ドクターの野望を２人のドクターが阻止する物語になるのかと思いきや、前半は姿形を自在に変化させられる異星人ザイゴンに３人が力を合わせて対抗する話になっていて、後半もタイム・ウォーの虐殺をいかに止めるかを３人が知恵を絞って考えるというような内容になっていた。つうかウォー・ドクター、話の分かる人じゃん！かなりシリアスな話になるかと思いきや細かいギャグか散りばめてあって、それはそれで「ドクター・フー」の本領発揮ですな。

10代目ドクターに加えてドブスのローズも再登場するが、本人役ではなく兵器のインターフェースによる幻影という扱いで、２人のドクターとのかけ合いなどはなし。もちろん９代目ドクターが再登場しないのは残念だが、たしかに登場人物が多くなったらかなり話が散漫になっていたかも。最後の「あの人」のカメオ出演は本人が事前にガッチリとバラしていたので驚きはなかったが、それでも感慨深いものがありましたよ。むしろ「次の人」が一瞬だけ出たことに感激。

本国では３Dで放送（公開？）されたとのことで３Dを意識した画面作りにところどころなっているが、どのくらい効果的だったのかは当然分からず。ドクターの歴史が修正され、次なる冒険への道が開かれるという点では50年の集大成というよりも１つの大きな特番といった感じだったかな。なお再生の制限回数のことが何も言及されてないのは少し意外であった。結局11代目は実は12代目であり、次の13代目が最後になってしまうのか？ほかにもツッコミ所は多いんだけど、何も文句は言いません。クリスマス・スペシャル、および次のドクターにおいてより多くの謎が解明されていくでしょう。

・「手をヒラヒラさせんと話が出来んのか？」
・「12人か？」「13人います！」
・「次は耳が目立たないと良いが…」
