アメコミ界で最近話題になってるのが、「スパイダーマン」シリーズにおける「ONE MORE DAY」というストーリー。

（以下ネタバレあり）これはこないだの「CIVIL WAR」 でスパイダーマンが全世界に自分の正体を明かしてしまったことが発端で、彼の家族までが悪人に狙われることとなってメイおばさんが狙撃されてしまう。ピーターは彼女を救おうと努力するものの、すべてが徒労に終わっていた。そんな彼のもとに悪魔メフィストが現われ、ピーターとメリー・ジェーンの結婚と引き換えにメイの命を救ってやるという究極の選択をつきつける。そしてピーターとメリー・ジェーンは話し合った結果メフィストの申し出を受けることになり、歴史が修正されて２人の結婚は「なかったこと」になり、ピーターはメイおばさんと同居してる状態に戻り、数年前に死んだハリー・オズボーンもなぜか甦り、ピーターとメリー・ジェーンはただの知人となって、新しい人生を踏み出すことになるのでした…。というのが大まかなあらすじ。

歴史が修正され、今までの設定や出来事が「なかったこと」になるのはアメコミだと良くあることだけど、ここまで大きな修正をこれだけ強引な手法でやってしまったのは前代未聞じゃないだろうか。これの根底にあるのは、スパイダーマンを「結婚しているヒーロー」として描いていくことに限界が見えてきたからなんだろうな。かといって子供たちのヒーローである彼を離婚させるのもマズいから、あくまでも「自己犠牲」という形に持っていったのか。でもメフィストって基本的には「ゴーストライダー」のようなオカルト系ヒーローの敵役であって、スパイダーマンの前にはそんなに登場したことがなかったのに、突然「機械仕掛けの神（悪魔か）」のごとく出てきて物事をお膳立てするのって無理があるよな。このあまりにもな展開は本国のファンにもボロクソにケナされているようで、早くも９０年代の「クローン・サーガ」並みの大失敗だという声も高い。

コミックって役者のいる映画やTVドラマと違って、登場人物が本当に老けたり死んだり降板したりすることがないんだから、こんな強引な歴史修正をしなくてもメリー・ジェーン抜きのピーターの生活を描くことはいくらでもできたと思うんだけどね。結婚前の時代を舞台にしたタイトルを出版するとか。「ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN」だって２人が結婚してない話だし。DCのスーパーマンなんかはタイトルによって結婚する前と後の話がうまく分けられてるじゃん。

さらに言わせてもらえば、スーパーヒーローが離婚するのはNGなのか？そりゃヒーローが子供たちに対して「悪い例」となるのは問題だろうが、アメコミの購買層って30代が中心じゃなかったっけ。それに今やティーンの憧れのアイドルが平気で妊娠したり離婚したり酒や麻薬でリハビリに通う時代でっせ、「悪い例」なんてのは巷に氾濫してるんだから、コミックのキャラクターが離婚したってそんなに影響はないと思うんだけどね。むしろ離婚したスパイダーマン、というのは面白そうな設定じゃないか？離婚したスーパーヒーローなんて希有な存在だからね。俺が知ってる限りではXメンのサイクロプスが妻子を捨てて元彼女のもとに走った例があったけど。

まあ今回の例が示すようにコミックなんて「何でもあり」の世界だから、この一連の騒動もいずれ「なかったこと」にされる可能性もなくはないが。メイおばさんなんて90年代に一度死んでるのに、ちゃっかり生き返ってるからね。ただ最近のマーヴェルは「HOUSE OF M」や「CIVIL WAR」などでファンの期待を裏切り続けているので、もうちょっとちゃんとして欲しいところです。今回の歴史修正ではピーターの正体バラしも「なかったこと」になったらしいが、じゃあ１年前に「CIVIL WAR」であれだけ煽ってたのは何だったんだよ。
