「ムーンライト」鑑賞

というわけで今年のアカデミー作品賞。いちおうネタバレ注意。

観る前はあらすじがアートハウス映画っぽくていまいち分りにくい印象を受けたものの、要するに黒人のBL映画であった。戯曲を原案にしたものらしいが、話の舞台となるマイアミのリバティーシティ出身であるバリー・ジェンキンス監督の実経験が強く反映された内容になっているみたい。

内容は３部構成になっていて、麻薬中毒者の母を持ち、幼いころからゲイだといじめを受けてきたシャイロン少年が、成長するにつれて自分のアイデンティティやセクシャリティについて向き合っていく姿を叙情的に描いたもの。

第１部が子供の頃の話で、ろくに親に養ってもらえず困窮していたところを麻薬売人のホアンに助けられ、彼が父親代わりになって育ててもらうという話。第２部がティーンの頃で、同級生にひどくいじめられながらも、自分のセクシャリティに目覚めていく内容、そして第３部が成人したシャイロンが学生時代の友人と再会するというもの。

何か派手なことが起きるというよりも、決して楽ではない日常の暮らしの部分を丁寧に描いているといった感じですかね。ここがすごい！という内容ではなく、シビアなストーリーながらも美しい映像と音楽でもって主人公の成長を表現しているというか。マイアミがこういうものなのかもしれないが、夜のシーンとかは本当に美しいですよ。

そして全体を支えているのが出演者たちの演技。主人公のシャイロンは時代にあわせて3人の役者が演じていて、いずれも内気で寡黙な役まわりであるために実はいちばん感情移入しにくいのだが、代わりに脇役の演技が光っていて、なかでもアカデミー賞を獲ったマハーラシャ・アリの演技は本当にどっしりとしていてすごい。（代理の）父親の雰囲気を醸し出しているというか。また彼の妻をジャネール・モネイが演じているのだが、ヤクの売人の女にしては美人すぎやしないか。彼女だけ老けないし。そして３部にわたって唯一出演してるのがナオミ・ハリス演じるシャイロンの母で、たった3日（！）ですべてのシーンを撮影したらしいけど若い頃から老け役までしっかり演じきってます。

まあ万人受けする作品ではないではないだろうけど、いろいろ心に響くものもあり、良い作品でしたよ。白人だらけだと叩かれた昨年の反動もあるだろうとはいえ、白人が全く出てこないゲイのティーンの物語に作品賞が与えられ、ムスリムの役者に初めて男優賞が与えられたのは画期的なことかと。「ラ・ラ・ランド」同様に、それ単独でというよりも、これから続くであろう作品のために門戸を広げた作品として後々に評価されていくものになるんじゃないでしょうか。
