「ファンタスティック・フォー」の映画版を観た。いや、まず観る気になれない2005年の大作映画のやつじゃなくて、1994年の低予算作品のほう。
この映画の存在を知らない人も多いかと思われるが、これは当時「FF」の映画化権を持っていたコンスタンティン・フィルムというドイツの製作会社が、近日中に「FF」の映画を製作しないと映画化権を失ってしまうということになり（詳細は知らないが、ハリウッドではこうしたことはよくある）、よりにもよってロジャー・コーマン大先生に話を持ちかけたもの。そしてコーマン大先生はその無尽なる知識において「よし、それならば映画をとっとと作ってしまおう」という判断をなされて、お得意とする低予算・スピード製作のB級作品を１本作られたのであります。
まあそんな経緯を持った作品だから出来もしかるべきもので、予算がないために特撮なんかボロボロでリード・リチャーズは足や手が棒のように伸びるだけだし、ヒューマン・トーチは手がちょっと燃えるくらいと、全然ファンタスティックじゃないじゃん！といった出来。でもなぜかザ・シングの着ぐるみだけは異様に出来がいいんだけどね。これに加えて宿敵ドクター・ドゥームはやたら弱いし、音楽は耳障りだし、尺が90分と短くてストーリー展開も早いのに話にメリハリがないからやたら冗長に感じられたりと、まあロクでもない作品。ジュエラーなんていう誰も知らない悪役の代わりにモールマンを出せばちょっとは良くなったのに。でも不思議とB級映画特有の面白さみたいなものを備えているのも事実で、ダメ映画なんだけどそれなりに気楽に楽しめてしまった。同じくオクラ入りになった「ジャスティス・リーグ」のTVパイロット版（なぜかむかし日本の深夜番組帯で放送されたやつ）よりかは面白いし、2005年のやつよりも面白いという意見がIMDBでは根強いようだ。
ちなみにこの映画、上記のように映画化権の保持だけを目的として作られたものなので、公開するという気がコーマン先生には最初からまったくなく、そのままオクラ入りになってしまった不遇の作品なのであります（だから現在手に入るのはすべて海賊版）。キャストやクルーはてっきり劇場公開されるものと思って製作してたらしいので、そこれへんはちょっと哀れだな。この映画に関する裏話はこのサイトに詳しく書かれてます。でもキャストやクルーも給料はもらえたはずだし、この映画を作ったことによりコンスタンティン・フィルムはヒットした2005年の映画とその続編にちゃっかりと製作会社として名を連ねてるし、もちろんコーマン先生もその過程で利益を手にしたはずだから、すべてはめだたしめでたし、と。コーマン先生のビジネス・センスは無尽なり。
