FXにしては軽めの新作ドラマ。
元刑事のハンクとその相棒のブリットはサンディエゴで無認可で探偵業を営んでいるコンビだが、探偵といっても連れて行かれた犬を奪い返すといった、何でも屋に近い仕事ばかりやっていた。そんなある日ハンクの親友の娘が行方不明になり、２人は彼女を捜すことになるのだが、彼女が地元の有力者のもとで働いていたことや、彼女の携帯を持った人物が死体で発見されたことから事態は深刻なものになり…というのが第１話のプロット。
「オーシャンズ11」の脚本家が手がけたシリーズということで、主人公ふたりの軽快なやり取りに重きが置かれた内容になっているかな。探偵ものとはいえあまりスマートな推理とかが披露されるわけでもなく、かといって派手なアクションがあるわけでもなく、全体的にオフビートな出来になっている。USAネットワークの「Psych」に何となく通じるところがあったかな。主人公ふたりには恋人とか別れた妻がいて、ダメ男なりに彼女たちを幸せにしようとする描写なんかは良かったな。ハンクを演じるドーナル・ローグの姿が「ビッグ・リボウスキ」のジェフ・ブリッジスそのままなのは今後支障をきたすような気もするが。
第１話は全体的に荒削りなところがあったけど、製作陣は名の知れた面子が揃っているようだし、FXのドラマは概して出来がいいので今後の展開が期待できそうな作品。でもなんで題名が「TERRIERS」なんだろう。劇中に出てきた犬はブルドッグだったぞ。
