話の舞台となるのは人里離れたところにある屋敷で、そこでは３人の若者たち（娘２人と息子１人）が両親によって外界と隔離され、塀の外へは一歩も出ることができずに一家だけで暮らしていた。屋敷を出ることができるのは父親だけで、息子の性欲の対処のために父親の会社で働く警備員の女性が娼婦として連れてこられるほかは、子供たちは塀の外の世界のことをまったく知らされずに育てられていたのだ。さらに両親に都合の悪いような言葉はすべて意味を違えて教え込まれ、例えば「海」は革製の椅子で、「ゾンビ」は黄色い花、というように。また彼らは架空の第４の兄弟がいることを教えられ、彼は罰として怖い外界へ追放されたことを告げられる。それでも年をとるにつれて外界への興味を抱く子供たちに対して、父親は「犬歯（ドッグトゥース）が抜け落ちる頃には外に行く準備ができるはずだ」と伝えるのだが…というような内容の物語。
とにかくものすごくシュールな展開が続く映画で、両親がなぜ子供たちをそのように扱うのかという説明は一切なし。両親にすべてを管轄された世界における子供たちの様子を淡々と描いていっている。個人的には北朝鮮のような独裁国家において偽の情報を与えられる国民のアレゴリーを感じたんだけど、監督のインタビューを読む限りではそうした意図はなくて、友人たちが子供を持つようになってとても過保護になっていくさまを見てこの映画を思いついたらしい。
ストーリーだけ聞くととても重そうな内容に感じられるかもしれないが、実は制限された環境のなかで右往左往する子供たちの様子がひたすら面白く描かれていて、最初から最後までゲラゲラ笑える作品であったりもする。屋敷の庭にネコが出たからといって「ネコというのはこの世で最も恐ろしい動物だ！奴らを追い出す方法を学べ！」と父親に命じられてイヌの鳴き声を必死に練習するシーンとかは大爆笑ものですぜ。ダンスのシーンもすごかったな。
子供たちの性的な目覚めを反映した、結構きわどいシーンも多いのでそのまま日本で公開されるかは非常に疑問だが、多くの人に見て欲しい衝撃的な映画でありましたよ。
あと次女を演じる女の子がすごく可愛かった。
