マシュー・ヴォーンは「キック・アス」が個人的にダメだったのでちょっと不安だったんだが、これは純粋な娯楽作品として楽しめた。60年代の007映画のパスティーシュ的なノリが良かったのかな。ただしアメコミに関する結構な知識を求められる内容になってると思うので（まさかアザゼルが出てくるとは思わなかった）、原作を知らない人には意味不明のところがあるかもしれない。

前の３部作よりも良いという意見も見かけるけど、プロフェッサーXとマグニートーとの関係に限って言えば、やはりパトリック・スチュワートとイアン・マッケランというベテラン俳優同士の対決のほうが優れていたかな。ジェームズ・マカヴォイはチビで童顔なのが災いして、指導者というよりも部活のマネージャーのように見えてしまうのが難点か。でも両者のイデオロギー違いが明確になり袂を分かつ流れはうまく描かれていたと思う。尤もこの映画にイデオロギーなどをあまり期待してはいけないわけで、「差別は良くない！」と言っときつつも黒人キャラは全く活躍しないし。あとアメリカ政府はレイ・ワイズにマイケル・アイアンサイドにオリバー・プラットといった俺好みの俳優を揃えておきながら、数人のミュータントに手玉にとられてしまうのが情けないのう。

突出してこれが良かったというような点は無いものの、ストーリーのテンポもよくて無駄がなく、見せ場もきちんと作られている快作。プリクエルであるがゆえに話が少し制限されている感じがするが（特にミスティークまわり）、いっそもう前の３部作は無視して自由に話を進めたほうが良いんじゃないのかな。フォックスは新たな３部作を作る気でいるらしいけど、ここから話はどう展開してくんだろう？次はベトナム戦争を背景にフォージが登場するとか、福島広島出身のサンファイアが出てくるとか？人類とミュータントが結束してヒッピーと戦う、なんてのもいいかもしれない。
