「Festival Express」を観に行く。1970年代にグレイトフル・デッドやジャニス・ジョプリンといったミュージシャンが、カナダを鉄道で横断しながらコンサートを開いていった光景を追ったドキュメンタリー。トロントから次の街へ行くのに２日かかってるところなどに、カナダのデカさを感じてしまう。撮影のレベルやコンサートの規模は「ウッドストック」などに比べれば大したことはないのだけど、それでも貴重な映像が拝める作品ではある。個人的にはサラリーマンのオヤジのような格好をしたバディ・ガイとか、ビレッジ・ピープルの原型のようなシャナナとかが印象に残っている。みんな登場してから１曲だけ演奏して引っ込んでるような気がするのは、単に編集のせいだろうか。ちなみに当時のバンドマンはみんなヒゲが伸び過ぎ。ザ・バンドなんてヒゲのかたまりのようだった。あとジャニスの声はやっぱりすごいっすね。スーパーコピー

コンサート以外には移動中の列車の映像も収められているが、１日中酒飲んでドラムセットまで広げてジャムセッションをやってるのが面白かった。ミュージシャンにありがちなエゴのみせつけもなく、和気あいあいと演奏してるのがいいね。

映画館の観客は予想どおり年配の人が多かったが、実際にトロントでやったコンサートに行った人とかもいるのかもしれない。ジャニスが出るたびに拍手してる人がいたりして、何か楽しかった。
