舞台となるのはフロリダ州タンパにある男性ストリッパーのクラブで、主人公のマイクはそこのダンサーの１人。インテリアデザインの才能を持つ彼はクラブなどで稼いだ金をコツコツと貯め、やがてインテリアの店を開くことを夢見ていたが、ダンサーが現金のチップを稼ぐ仕事なのに対してアメリカ社会ではクレジットカードの履歴がものを言うので、銀行からの融資を受けることができず悶々としていた。そんなある日彼は別のバイト先でアダムというボンクラな青年と出会い、彼をクラブに連れて行ったことがきっかけでアダムもストリッパーとして働くことになる。アダムの姉のブルックはそれを好ましく思わないものの、マイクとブルックは恋仲になり…というような話。
題材が題材だがチンコは出てきませんよ。アメリカのストリッパー小屋ってスッポンポンになるのは禁じられてるのかな？でもそれ以外のところはいろいろ披露されまして、体脂肪１ケタ台のおにーちゃんたちによる、軍隊とかカウボーイをテーマにしたショーやダンスがふんだんに盛り込まれている。そういう意味ではミュージカル映画に近いノリがあるかな。
でもショーの部分以外の描写は以外と薄くて、夢を抱いた主人公や、トラブルばかり起こす若者、欲の強いクラブのオーナーなどによるドラマはかなり典型的。ダンサーの日常を描いた、かなりまったりした映画という印象は否めない。マイクのインテリアデザインの話も途中からどこへ行ってしまったような。
主演のチャニング・テイタムは実際に過去にダンサーとして働いてたことがあるらしく、身の上話を前作「エージェント・マロリー」のときにソダーバーグに話したら「それ面白そーじゃん！撮影しようよ！」ということになって映画になったらしい。そういう思いつきで映画を撮り、それなりのキャストを集めてしまうところがソダーバーグの強みというか何というか。ただ「マロリー」同様に、なんか余力で映画撮ってるんじゃないかという気もする。まあ「トラフィック」みたいな大作に比べての話ですが。
アダムを演じるのは「アイ・アム・ナンバー４」のアレックス・ペティファー…って俺なんか嫌いなんだよな彼。俳優よりもファッションモデルという感じがして。そしてマイアミへの出店を目指すクラブのオーナーを演じるのがマシュー・マコノヒーで、火を噴いたりギター弾いたりと、マンガみたいなキャラクターを演じる彼がいちばんおいしい所をとってたんじゃないでしょうか。最後にダンスを披露するのも彼だし。日本の腐女子にとってはマット・ボマーがダンサーを演じてるのがめっけものでしょうが、彼の出番は意外なくらいに少なかったな。あと元WWFのレスラーであるケビン・ナッシュもなぜか裸になってステージで踊ってました。
珍しいビジネスの世界を舞台にしているという点では面白い映画だったものの、ストーリーは平凡だったかな。テイタムは早くも続編を計画しているらしいが、ソダーバーグ並みの監督を連れてこないと、面白い作品を作るのは相当難しいだろうな。
