BBCのさらなる暗い刑事ドラマで、主演は「Xファイル」のジリアン・アンダーソン。
舞台となるのは北アイルランドのベルファスト。若い女性が何者かに絞殺されるという事件が起き、数週間が経っても解決の糸口が見えなかったことから、ロンドンからギブソン警視（アンダーソン）が調査のために派遣されてくる。その一方で犯人である人物は心理カウンセラーを勤める１児のよき父親だったが、心に大きな闇を抱え、さらなる犠牲者を出そうとしていた…とかいうプロット。
古きは「第一容疑者」とか、最近では「刑事ジョン・ルーサー」とか「Broadchurch」などとイギリスの刑事ドラマは暗い内容のものが珍しくないのですが、これは俺が観てきたなかでも突出して暗いような。第１話では警察が捜査らしきことを殆ど行わないまま、犯人のドロドロとしたサイコっぷりが描かれ、そのまま犠牲者が出てしまうんですもの。まるで犯人が主人公のような扱いだったな。それを調査するべきギブソン警視は仏頂面で被害者のビデオとか見てるくらいだし、若い刑事に自分のホテルの部屋番号とか教えて、あんた何やってんの、という内容であった。さらにベルファストという政治的に微妙な土地柄も加わって暗さが増しているわけだが、今後はもっと警視と犯人の心理戦みたいなものを期待していいんでしょうか？
でもこれ何故か前評判が高くて、BBC2でも数年ぶりの高視聴率をたたき出したらしく、シリーズ２の製作が早くも決まったみたい。イギリス人の好みはよく分からんなあ。ジリアン・アンダーソンはアメリカだと「Hannibal」に出演してるみたいですが、今後は主演作であるこっちのほうに力を入れていくことになるのかな。
刑事ドラマならね、もうちょっと掴みとなるような要素が欲しかったと思う。
