「ブレイキング・バッド」に代わるドラマが早急に必用なAMCの新シリーズ。秋に早くも日本で放送するとか？

フランクはデトロイト市警の刑事だったが、同僚のブレンダンの悪徳ぶりと汚職に耐えられなくなくなり、別の同僚のジョーと結託してブレンダンを殺害し、自殺に見せかけて車ごと海に投げ込む。完全犯罪を達成したつもりのフランクだったが、実はブレンダンは内部調査の部門に目をつけられており、次の日に彼らが調査にやってきたことからジョーは調査のことを知っていたのではと訝しむフランク。一方ではブレンダンから麻薬の横流しを受けていた街のゴロツキたちが、ブレンダンがいなくなったことでマズい状況におかれていた。さらに海中から引き揚げられたブレンダンの車のトランクから切断された死体が発見されたことで、物事は予期せぬ展開を迎えることに…というのが第１話のプロット。

主演は最近いろんな映画で悪役を演じてる感のあるマーク・ストロング。彼の同僚のジョーを演じるのは同じくイギリス人のレニー・ジェームズ…ってこのままだとアメリカ人のテレビ俳優はデトロイトの労働者よりも先にみんな失業してしまうんじゃないだろうか。「ブレイキング・バッド」のデヴィッド・コスタビルも出てるけどね。そもそもストロングがイギリスで出演した同名のミニシリーズをベースにしたものらしい。ミニシリーズならまだしも、この設定で話をどこまで引っ張ることができるんだろう？

話は地味というか暗くて、荒廃したデトロイトを舞台に登場人物たちがウジウジ悩む描写が続く内容になっている。その地味っぷりはAMCの「ルビコン」に通じるものがあるかな。「ブレイキング・バッド」には吹っ切れた主人公によるカタルシスがあったわけだが、この番組にそのようなものは期待できず。「バッド」の後釜になるのは厳しいかな。ちゃんとデトロイトで撮影をして地元の経済復興に貢献してるようなので（自治体から補助金もらってるらしいけど）、頑張ってほしいシリーズではあるのですが…。
