チャンネル４の新シリーズ。今回のはパイロットムービー的な扱いで、秋からシリーズの撮影が始まるとか？監督はなんとダニー・ボイル。オリンピックの演出やったかと思いきや「トランス」撮って、そのあとこれを撮るとは忙しい人ですね。
イギリスの警察の世間の評判を回復させるために、スコットランド・ヤードはPRコンサルタントのリズ・ガーヴェイをアメリカより招聘。さらに警官たちの日常を撮影させるためにカメラマンを同行させる。リズはさっそく警察のイメージ向上にとりかかるものの、前任者の仲間の妨害などに遭って苦労する。さらに悪いことにロンドンで何者かによる連続狙撃事件が発生して…というプロット。
上は警視総監から下は現場の警察官まで、警察の混沌とした日常を赤裸裸に描いた内容になっていて、警察の指揮系統内、およびメディアに対する情報伝達の錯綜っぷりが大きなテーマになっている。ただしPRコンサルタントが主役とはいえ「The Thick of It」ほどのドギツさはないかな。
リズを演じるのが「ザ・イースト」のブリット・マーリングで、僅か数本の出演作で知的なブロンドという役柄を確立した感のある彼女ですが、そのキャラをそのまんまイギリスにも進出させております。警視総監を演じるのがジェームズ・ネスビットで、少し痩せたかな？主要なキャストのほかにPTSD気味の機動隊員とか警官に同行するカメラマンとかが出て来るんだけど、後のシリーズ版ではどこまでが再登場するんだろう。
登場人物が多いことに加え、話のトーンがコメディになったりサスペンスになったりと全体的に散漫な感じがするものの、演出は相変わらず巧みだしそれなりに楽しめる作品であった。最近のイギリスの警察ドラマって陰惨な展開のものが多い気がするので、こういう軽めのものがあっても良いかと。imdbなどでは評判が芳しくないみたいだが、シリーズになって本調子になってくることに期待。
