年末に「年取ってから後悔する37の事柄」という記事を読みまして、ならば俺はこれらの事を後悔しないように生きようと思いまして、なんか典型的なミッドライフ・クライシスの兆候が出ているわけですが、その37の事柄の１つに「機会があったときに好きなミュージシャンのライブに行かなかったこと」というのがあるわけですね。
それとこないだ書いたように90年代とかの音楽ばっかり聴いてるのも良くないよね、もっと新しい音楽を聴かないといけねいよね、と奮起して「AVクラブ」が選んだ2013年のベスト・アルバム群を片っ端から聴いてみたわけですね。そのなかではハイムやチャーチズ、デフヘヴンなどの曲が良いなと思いまして（逆にヴァンパイア・ウィークエンドは何度聴いてもピンとこない）、そのうちのチャーチズが来日することを知ってさっそくチケットを入手した次第です（本当はハイムがその前に来日してたのだがソールドアウトだった）。
場所は恵比寿のリキッドルーム。ワシが若い頃はリキッドルームは新宿にあったんじゃがのう。スタッフの対応はイマイチだったけど、会場は広くて良かったですよ。昨年ワイヤーが来日したときの、恵比寿の別のライブハウスは音が割れまくってたからなあ。
前座はエラーズとかいうグラスゴーのポストロック・バンド。事前にyoutubeでチェックしてた印象とは異なり、意外とギター・ロックっぽい編成であった。特にドラムのエフェクトのかけかたが面白かったな。しかし機材のトラブルが続き、１度はラップトップが落ちたとかで曲をまるまるやり直すはめに。エレクトロニカのバンドってこういうのが弱みだよね。「バンド名のとおりエラーが起きました、HAHA！」などと笑ってごまかしていたが、こういうときにブーイングしない日本の観客って人がいいよね。
そしてメインのチャーチズ登場。ボーカルの声がちょっと出てなかったような感じもしたけど、まあ許容範囲。ただこちらも機材トラブルがあったらしく、モニターの返りが悪いとかで３曲目あたりでいったんライブが中断したのに萎える。その後は順調に進んだけど、エレクトロニカ系のバンドってどうしても即興性に欠けるというか、カラオケっぽい感じになると思うのは俺の勉強不足でしょうか。あとアルバム同様に男性ボーカルの曲が１つあったんだけど、なんかヘタでした。今後は女性ボーカルに専念しなさい。
というわけで久しぶりにライブに行けて面白かったです。今年はもっとライブハウスに足を運ぶようにせねば。
