昨年の「明月幾時有」に続いて新年一発目は抗日映画を観る。とはいえ「明月幾時有」はそれなりの出来だったのに対して、こちらは製作時のゴタゴタが災いしてか相当に残念な作品になっていたのであります。
元々は第2次世界大戦の連合国戦勝70周年を記念して製作され、中国や韓国の役者だけでなくハリウッドからもブルース・ウィリスやエイドリアン・ブロディといったスターを招き、さらには「ハクソー・リッジ」で派手な沖縄戦を監督したメル・ギブソンがコンサルタントを務め（アート・ディレクター説もあるが具体的に何をしたのかは不明）、３Dで撮影された超大作戦争映画になるはずだった、らしい。
しかし出演者の范冰冰が脱税容疑で中国当局によりブラックリスト入りさせられたことで雲行きが怪しくなり、范冰冰だけが理由なのかどうかは分からないけど３D上映はなくなり、さらには中国での公開も見送られる結果になったのだとか。でも冒頭のクレジットに広電総局の許可証が出てくるので、劇場公開しようと思えば出来たのか？アメリカでは「Air Strike」の題でちょっとだけ公開されたらしいけど、他にも「The Bombing」とか「Unbreakable Spirit」といった英題のついたポスターもあるようで、この映画のいきさつは良く分からんなあ…とりあえず自分は97分の英語吹替版（すごく適当に作ってある）を観ました。これはアメリカ版で、イギリス版は「The Bombing」の題で2時間あるとか？まあいいや。
舞台となるのは1937年の重慶。日本軍の爆撃機と零戦の度重なる襲撃により街は崩壊し、中国軍も劣勢を強いられていた。そこに連合国軍からやってきたジャック・ジョンソン大佐（ウィリス。クレア・リー・シェンノートがモデルらしい）が、若き中国兵士たちを鍛えていく。しかし兵士のひとりシュエは冒頭の空中戦で兄を失ったばかりか自身も被弾して航空機を扱えなかったため、日本軍の暗号解読機をトラックで重慶まで運ぶ任務を任されるのだが…というあらすじ。
いちおうこの空軍兵士たちの話とシュエのトラックの話が交互して語られていくのだが、この作品は脚本家が６人もクレジットされていて、オリジナルカットは５時間超もあったらしく、それも映画としてどうかと思う。さらにそれを97分に縮めたものだから、それぞれの登場人物の物語がブツ切り状態になっていて、辻褄のあわないプロットと回収されない伏線のオンパレード。特に気になったのをいくつか挙げると：
- 話題の范冰冰は学校の教師役で出てきて、冒頭で校舎が爆撃されて死亡。出演時間１分くらい。彼女を出す必要あったのか？
- クレジット上では３番目にいるルーマー・ウィリスは女医として登場。「まだ重慶に残ってるのか？」と同僚に驚かれるがそれまでの経緯が一切説明されていない。彼女の出演時間も１分くらい。父ウィリスの相当なゴリ押しがあったのでは。
- エイドリアン・ブロディも医者として登場。病院が爆撃されて死亡。出演時間３分くらい。
- 負傷のためトラックも運転できないはずだったシュエが、最後はしっかり運転している。
- 人がたくさん出てきてすぐ死ぬ。というか各シーンがブツ切りなので、あの人どうなったんだっけ？というキャラクターがやたら多い。
- クライマックスのあとに、麻雀大会が開催されてコメディタッチのドタバタ劇になる。
などなど。話のつながり方が無茶苦茶なので、なんかダイジェスト版を観ているような感じであったよ。せめて戦闘シーンに迫力があれば見応えもあったのだが、戦闘機はCGなのがバレバレで、最近のゲーム機レベル。地上の爆破シーンだけちょっと派手だったかな。そもそも1937年の話なのに1940年に実戦投入された零戦が登場してるし、機体の下部から突然爆弾が表れて爆撃を行うなど、ミリタリーマニアが見たら怒りそうな描写もちらほらあります。
アジア系の出演者ではニコラス・ツェーやソン・スンホン、サイモン・ヤムなど日本でもよく知られた役者がいろいろ出てるのに、こんな出来の作品になって残念。これ1本で中国映画や抗日映画を判断する気はないが、国家バンザイの内容であっても当局に睨まれれば大失敗する可能性もある、という中国における映画製作の難しさを伝えるためのお手本として覚えておく（観なくていい）作品なのかもしれない。
