舞台は近未来のロサンゼルス。武装した警官たちが市民の弾圧を行う一方で市民たちの暴動が頻発しており、その騒動に紛れて銀行強盗を行ったギャングたちが警察に撃たれて負傷し、闇社会のホテル「ホテル・アルテミス」に避難してくる。そこはナースと呼ばれる初老の女性が運営し、犯罪者たちの傷を治療するホテル兼病院であった。街中での暴動が過激化するなか、ホテルの運営に専念しようとするナースがったが、負傷した警官が担ぎ込まれ、さらに犯罪社会のボスであるウルフ・キングという男もやって来たことから事態は混乱を招き…というあらすじ。

舞台としてのホテル・アルテミスは「ジョン・ウィック」に出て来た殺し屋ホテルによく似ていて、認められたメンバーのみが入館でき、銃の持ち込みは禁止、館内での殺し合いも厳禁、といった厳しいルールが課せられているのが特徴。まあ例によってルールが破られていくわけですが。

全体的にはとにかく典型的なB級映画で、00年代に20世紀フォックスあたりがビデオスルーで出してたような、ちょっと予算はあるものの脚本とか演出がすごく平凡なやつ（ロックスターがチョイ役で出てるケースが多かった）。この作品もセリフがやけに説明調だったり、「良いニュースと悪いニュースがあるわ」「良いのを教えてくれ」「実はないの」とかクサいセリフが連発されたりしてなんか興ざめ。セットも安そうだしアクションも特色すべき点はないし、よくあるSF映画の１つとして片付けられそうなのだが…

しかし他のB級SF映画と決定的に違うのが、そのキャストの異様な豪華さ。ナースを演じるジョディ・フォスターをはじめ、デイブ・バウティスタにスターリング・K・ブラウン、ソフィア・ブーテラ、ザッカリー・クイント、ブライアン・タイリー・ヘンリー、チャーリー・デイ、さらにはジェフ・ゴールドブラムなどといった、ブロックバスター級の映画に出てるような役者が揃っているのだ。監督のドリュー・ピアスって「アイアンマン３」の脚本家で、これが初監督作らしいけどよくこんなキャストを揃えられたな。

しかし前述したように脚本がダメダメなので、せっかくのキャストが無駄に使われている感がありあり。特にチャーリー・デイってあんなに演技下手だったっけか。ジョディ・フォスターもなぜこんな映画に主演することにしたのだろう。自分とSFは合わないことを「エリジウム」で学ばなかったのだろうか。

逆にキャストが無名（せいぜいシャールト・コプリーあたりが出演）だったら、頑張った低予算映画として評価できたかもしれないけど、キャストがやけに豪華なだけに、名優たちの無駄遣いだけが目についた作品でした。本国の評判も興行成績も散々だったらしいし、ホントなんでみんな出演に合意したのだろう？
