海外でちょっと先に観てきてしまいました。以下はいちおうネタバレ注意。
- 「ダーク・フェニックス・サーガ」といえばコミック史上に残る有名なストーリーラインだが、ヒーローが強大な力を手に入れたことで悪に転じて、悲劇的な結末を迎える…というストーリーは必ずしも娯楽大作向けではないと思うのですね。コミックにおいても「本物のジーンは海の底で寝てました」とレトコンされてるし、映画でもすでに「ファイナル・デシジョン」で一回やって、あまり面白くなかったし。「アポカリプス」もそうだったが、あまりコミックに沿わないほうが劇場版「X-MEN」は面白いのではないか。
- 製作時はまだディズニーによるFOXの買収は影響なかったと思うけど、それでも何というか、フランチャイズの末期の疲れみたいなものが感じられる内容になっている。せかしたプロット、拘束時間が短かったのか途中退場する出演者などなど。
- 映画作りでいちばん避けるべきことは「共感できるキャラクターが誰もいない」状況を作ってしまうことだと思うのだけど、この映画の前半はまさしくそんな感じ。プロフェッサーXは大衆の人気を得るために大統領に媚びへつらってX-MENを顧みないし、ジーンはどんどん悪に転じていくし、他のキャラクターはあたふたしているだけだし。せめて敵キャラがもっと魅力的だったら助かったのだが。
- とはいえ役者陣が手堅いのは救いで、マカヴォイにファスベンダー、ローレンスといった有名どころが揃って出演しているのはそれでも見応えがあるんじゃないかな。最後の列車のクライマックスとかそれなりに盛り上がったし。ジェシカ・チャステインは別に彼女でなくても良かったんじゃね？と思いますが。
- 来年の今頃にはマーベル傘下になった新たなX-MENのキャストが発表されて話題になってるんじゃないかと思いますが、FOXのX-MEN（あとライミのスパイダーマン）こそが今のスーパーヒーロー映画のブームを築くもとになった作品だと個人的には考えているわけで、これだけジャンルに貢献したフランチャイズが、このような凡作でひっそりと終焉を迎えることは寂しくて仕方がないのです。ちゃんと劇場公開されただけ「ニュー・ミュータンツ」よりもマシなのだろうけど。
