最近の「アステリックス」の出来についてはBBCが厳しい記事を載せていて、要するにルネ・ゴシニがストーリーを担当してた頃は面白かったけど、彼の死後にアーティストのアルベール・ユデルゾがストーリーも書くようになってからダメになっていったというもの。まあ確かに近年の作品の出来は悪くて、変にフェミニズムを取り入れた「Asterix and the Secret Weapon」とか「Asterix and the Actress」や、「スパルタカス」の変なパロディだった「Asterix and Obelix All at Sea」は昔の作品に比べると非常にツマらなかった。でもその前の「Asterix and the Magic Carpet」や「Asterix and Son」は結構面白かったので、ユデルゾのストーリーを全否定する気にはなれないんだよな。あと彼がマーチャンダイジングで儲けてることも批判してるけど、それはまあ仕方ないでしょ。マーチャンで儲けなかったコミック作家なんてビル・ワターソンくらいのものだし。
そしてユデルゾは自分の死後も「アステリックス」が続くことを希望してるらしくて、既にアートの大半を息子が担当しているという話を聞いたことがあるけど、ここ最近の作品のクオリティが続くようならいっそ終わらせてしまったほうが良い気がする。
ちなみに俺のお気に入りは「Asterix and the Normans」「Asterix at the Olympic Games」「Asterix and the Chieftain’s Shield」「Asterix and Son」あたりかな。面白いコミックなのに日本ではまるで知られていないのが残念。
