八木の野郎からもらったDVDで。カルチャー・ジャミングのコンビ「ザ・イエスメン」を追ったドキュメンタリーの第２弾。最初のやつは昨年日本でもテレビ放送されましたね。

内容としては前作のあとにイエスメンが行った様々な活躍を順に紹介していくものになっていて、ダウ・ケミカルの社員のふりをしてボパール化学工場事故の賠償を行う、とBBCの番組で発表したのを皮切りに、エクソンやハリバートン、ニューオリンズでの住宅都市開発省などを標的にして彼らなりの茶化しかたで大企業の強欲ぶりを暴いていく。「災害は企業にとって良いものです」といった彼らの偽のプレゼンに賛同し、サバイバボール（上の写真のコスチューム）を真に受けて「テロ対策の商売にいいですね」なんて言ってくる企業の職員がいるのには失笑を禁じ得ない。

作品の全体的なテーマとしては「アンチ自由放任主義」があって、ミルトン・フリードマンが唱えた「規制なき市場」のモデルにのっとって企業が利益ばかりを追い求めた結果、貧しい人々が増えて苦しむことになったとイエスメンは厳しく指摘している。末端の人間とか環境保護のことを考えずに利益の追求と市場の開放を求める企業の人間や、彼らに雇われた経済学者のコメントもいろいろ出てくるんだけど、ああいうのを聞いてるとなぜ中国が経済成長を続けてるのかがよく分かるような気がしますね。

とまあ笑えるところは笑えるし、考えさせられるところは考えさせられる作品なんだけど、前作に比べるとなんか地味というかのっぺりとした印象を受けるんだよな。これはたぶん前作はプロのドキュメンタリー作家であるクリス・スミスが監督を務めてたのに対し、今回はイエスメンたち自身が監督しているためで、撮影はビデオ撮りだしカメラのアングルが変だしナレーションが自意識過剰気味だし、なんかアマチュア映画を観ているような気になってしまう。前作が劇場での鑑賞に堪えうる作品だったとすれば、今回のはテレビ特番といった出来かな。

ただし前作に比べて良かったのは「あなたたちの冗談のおかげで貧しい人たちが偽りの希望を抱いたと思わないんですか？」と指摘された彼らが、実際にボパールやニューオリンズの住民たちに会いにいくところで、住民たちはイエスメンを怒るどころか彼らの行為を賞賛してくれたというのが興味深かった。

こうして様々な場所に登場したイエスメンだが、彼らが出番を前にして緊張しているところとか、プレゼンの直後に正体がバレて詰問され、うろたえている姿なんかもこの作品では映し出されている。彼らが有名になるのに伴って正体がバレる可能性は高くなってくるわけで、彼らの活動はそろそろ大きな転換期を迎えているんじゃないだろうか。こないだやった偽ニューヨーク・タイムズの配布というのは新しい手段ではあるもののそんなに繰り返せないだろうし。

何にせよ我々庶民にとっては、彼らのように大企業をコケにしてくれる存在がいるのは大変頼もしいことなので、このまま逮捕されたりせずに神出鬼没の活躍を続け、この「イエスメンが世界を直す」に続くドキュメンタリーの第３弾をぜひ作ってほしいところです。
