いよいよカナダ最後の日になってしまった。これから空港に出発します。 日本でのサラリーマン生活からの変化を求めて去年の10月にトロントへ来たわけだが、以前にも３回ほど海外に住んだことがあるので（イギリスに２回、アイルランドに１回）、実のところ「これが海外生活ってやつか！」的な感動はあまりなかった。カナダは初めてとはいえ英語圏での生活は慣れていたので、何を期待して何を期待していけないのか、事前にどことなく分かってるようなところがあったのです。むしろ日本にいるときにずっと「また海外に住んでみたい」という漠然とした欲求を常に抱えていたので、それを満たすためにカナダへ来たのかもしれない。この欲求を満たしたいま、日本に帰ってマイホームを30年ローンで購入して、ジーザス＆メリー・チェインとかが好きそうな女の子とでも結婚して、老いて死ぬまで日本に住み続けることになるのか、それともまた海外に住みたくなるのか、将来のことは何とも分からない。一つの場所に延々と住み続けることに対する、もやもやとした嫌悪感を感じてるのは確かだけど。
別に語学学校とか大学に通ったわけでもないし、きちんとした職に就いたわけでもないので、自分がカナダで何を得たのかということを明確に説明することは難しい。とりあえずボランティアをしてテレビ番組のエキストラをやって、大学の短期コースに通って、あとは映画ばかり観てました、というのが正直なところか。これが良いことなのか悪いことなのかは、今のところ何とも言えない。ワーキングホリデーのビザは10月まであるので、残りの４ヵ月で何か確固としたことに挑戦してみてもいいんだけど、とりあえず日本に帰ります。
いちおう弁明がましいことを述べさせてもらうと、上記したように海外の生活には慣れてたのでそれなりに時間を有意義に使うことが出来たと思うし、自分が望んでいた通りの生活をすることが出来たと思う。日本の知人のうちには、海外に渡る人ってみんな「デカイこと」をやりそうだと思い込んでる人がいるみたいだけど、変に期待されても困るんだよなあ。
日本に帰ったら暑いなか就職活動をしなければならないわけで、望むらくは以前みたいに映画・ビデオ関係の仕事につきたいけど、さてどうなるんでしょう。以前カナダに発つ際に海外の知人たちに「カナダでなんかいいツテ知らない？」とメールしたら誰からも返事がこなくて、最近も日本の知人たちに「帰国するんでなんかいい仕事知らない？」とメールしたら誰からも返事がこなくて、いかに俺が人気ないかをひしひしと認識してるところですが、これも俺の不徳のいたすところであります。あまりいい仕事が見つからなかったら、少なくとも暑いうちは家に引きこもってウィキペディアの翻訳でも手伝おうかな。
まあ何にせよ、帰国したら今よりもずっと忙しくなると思うので当ブログの更新は停止させていただきます。トロントで入手してまだ観てないDVDとかがあるんで、いずれまた感想とかを書き込むかもしれないけど、不定期な更新になるでしょう。今までトラックバックを送ってくれたり、コメントを書き込んでくれた方々、どうもありがとうございました。１日に30〜40ヒットくらいの小さなブログだったけど、ここに書かれている情報が誰かの役に立ってくれれば幸いです。サイトは度々チェックしますので何か意見があれば気軽に書き込んでください。
