８月ももうすぐ終わりだが夏休み特集ということで、俺が愛してやまないイギリスの老舗バンド、XTCのアルバム未収録曲を（ほぼ）リリース順に紹介していくのだよ。XTCはシングルB面やホームデモにも名曲がたくさんあるバンドで、古くは「BEESWAX」や「Rag and Bone Buffet」、最近では「Coat of Many Cupboards」などと未発表曲を集めたコンピレーション・アルバムも出されているものの、それにも収録されてない曲やバージョン違いのデモとかがあって、なかなかコレクター泣かせのバンドなんだよね。そんな中でも個人的に好きなのは以下の通り：
Hang on to the Night
まだキーボードにバリー・アンドリューズがいたころの曲。この頃のサイケなXTCに影響を受けたバンドって沢山いると思う。1:30あたりのキーボードソロが好きです。
２枚目のアルバム「GO 2」のときはダブのミックスを加えたボーナスアルバムやアンディのソロアルバムなども出てるのだが、あれらは出来が良くないので割愛。
The Somnambulist
４枚目のアルバム「ブラック・シー」からの比較的異色なB面曲。彼らはB面にいろいろ実験的な曲を詰め込んでいた。この頃は後に「Homo Safari」としてまとめられる一連のインスト曲もB面に入れてたけど、あれらはあまり好きではないです。
Tissue Tigers (The Arguers)
大ヒットしたシングル「Senses Working Overtime」のB面に収録されてた曲。へたなバンドのA面シングルよりも名曲だろ。
Blame the Weather
同上。コリン・ムールディングの哀愁あるボーカルが渋いね。
Desert Island
６枚目のアルバム「ママー」はフォーク調で地味なので見過ごされることも多いが、俺は好きだ。この頃の曲では「Toys」もお勧め。
The Troubles
透明ビニールを使っていた12インチ版「The Meeting Place」のB面曲。プロデュースされてないホームデモなのにこのクオリティ。歌詞も結構好きです。
ちなみに8枚目のアルバム「スカイラーキング」は「ディア・ゴッド」というB面曲がアメリカで何故か大ヒットして、彼の国ではXTCの代表曲のように扱われてるのですが、あれあまり良い曲でもないよねえ。
Everything
「オレンジズ＆レモンズ」の頃のデモ曲。ファンクラブ限定のカセットテープで俺が最初に聴いたのと、上の動画のものは弱冠バージョンが違うような気がする。
Cherry In Your Tree
XTC最後の名曲だと俺が勝手に思っている曲。PCゲームのイメージアルバムという変な媒体で発表されたもので、彼らの公式なアルバムには収録されてないんじゃないかな？
他にもお勧めしたい曲はたくさんあるのですが、かつてはレコード屋を探索したり通販で取り寄せてた曲も最近ではYoutubeなどで一発で検索できるようになったので、興味がある方はいろいろお探しあれ。最後におまけでアンディによるロックンロールの歴史を：
