別名「Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger」で、その名から分かるようにマーベルの同名コミックをもとにしたFreeformの新作シリーズ。原作のクリエイターはロケット・ラクーンと同じくビル・マントロ御大な。Freeformとしては初のマーベル作品だけど、過去にもABCファミリー時代にコミックを映像化した傑作「THE MIDDLEMAN」とかやってたのでそんなに違和感はない。

先に原作のコミックのほうを説明しておくと、「クローク＆ダガー」という名前が一般的に指すミステリーやサスペンスのジャンルとは関係なくて、光でできた短剣（というか飛びナイフ）を操る白人女性のダガーと、フード付きの巨大な外套をまとい、それに包まれたもの（自身を含む）を自在に瞬間移動させる能力を持った黒人男性のクロークというふたりのティーンのスーパーヒーローを主人公にしたもの。

初登場は1982年のスパイダーマン誌で、そこからスピンオフして独自のミニシリーズ、さらにはオンゴーイングシリーズなどで活躍していったキャラクターだが、いわゆるスーパーヴィランと戦うような内容というよりも、当時社会問題だったティーンの家出とか麻薬問題などを扱った話が多かったらしい…すいません俺ほとんど読んだことありません。まあキャラクターが地味なんだよね。クロークの外見とか能力って少し前に登場したダズラーとよく似たものだったし、クロークは背後でむっすりしてるだけで特徴的なところはなかったし。他の作品にたまにゲストキャラで出てくる人たち、という印象が強かったかな。

マーベルのキャラクターとしてはデアデビルやパニッシャーのようなストリート系ということで、映像化も安上がりに済みそうだと思われたんだろうか。さらに主人公がティーンということでFreeformで放送されることになったとか？とにかくスーパーヒーローの番組というよりも、ティーンの青春ドラマという雰囲気が強い内容になっている。

主人公のタイローン（クローク）とタンディ（ダガー）は幼いときに、ニューオリンズ沖で起きたロクソン・コーポレーション（マーベルではおなじみの悪徳企業）の実験施設が爆破したときの衝撃を水中で受けた結果特殊な能力を身につけたものの、本人たちにはその自覚もなく、また事故の記憶も殆どなかった。しかし事故と前後してタイローンは兄を悪徳警官に射殺され、タンディは父親がロクソンに関わっていたと逮捕され、両者はそのトラウマによって周囲になじめないティーンに成長していた。やがて彼らの能力が覚醒し始め、タンディは光の短剣によって人を傷つけてしまい、タイローンは意図せずに遠く離れた場所へとワープするようになる。その能力に困惑する二人は、やがて大きな運命に導かれて出会うようになり…というあらすじ。

最初の2話まで観たけど話のペースが非常に遅くて、クロークとダガーの能力が発動するのは数回のみ。悪者をバッタバッタと倒すスーパーヒーロー活劇を期待していると、壮大な肩透かしをくらうことになるだろう。タンディの家庭が崩壊寸前で彼女が非行に走っているところとか、兄を失ったタイローンが家でも学校でもいろんなプレッシャーに苦しんでいるとことか、いかにもFreeformっぽい作品だなとは思うものの、それってマーベル作品に期待しているものなのかな、という気もする。

タンディ役は歌手もやってるオリヴィア・ホルト、タイローン役はオーブリー・ジョセフ。まああまり知られてない若手俳優ふたりですかね。有名俳優といえばタイローンの母役に「ER」のグロリア・ルーベンが出ているくらいか。

原作にはない神秘的な予知夢（？）のシーンとかもあって、マーベル作品としては一風変わった出来になっているし、今の段階でも少なくとも「インヒューマンズ」よりは面白くなるだろうとは思うものの、いかんせん話のペースが遅すぎて今後はどうなるかわからんなあ。主人公ふたりが自分たちの能力を完全に使いこなせるようになれば話が面白くなるんだろうけど、それがいつのことになるやら…。
